Director of Software Engineering (Ref: 196729)

We are working with a leading consumer products business that is investing heavily in its connected product and digital ecosystem. The business is looking to hire a Director Software Engineering to lead engineering across firmware, cloud, mobile and web/ecommerce. This is a key leadership hire, responsible for helping shape the future engineering structure, improve delivery, raise technical standards and scale the team as the business continues to grow.

This role would suit an engineering leader who has operated in connected products, IoT, embedded technology, device to cloud to app environments, ecommerce, or similar complex software ecosystems.

• Lead engineering teams across firmware, cloud/backend, mobile and web/ecommerce

• Help shape and scale the engineering organisation as the business moves toward more cross functional feature teams

• Improve engineering execution, delivery predictability, release discipline and technical standards

• Partner closely with product, hardware, operations and senior leadership to deliver connected product and digital initiatives

• Manage distributed engineering teams, including internal employees, contractors, nearshore/offshore teams and vendor partners

• Bring technical credibility across firmware, mobile, cloud architecture, web platforms and modern engineering practices

• Support improvements around Agile delivery, CI/CD, automation, observability, release governance and scalable architecture

• Assess current team capability, identify gaps and help build a high performing engineering function

• Bring commercial awareness, ideally with exposure to consumer products, DTC ecommerce, subscriptions or connected product revenue models

• 10+ years in software engineering, with experience leading multi team engineering organisations

• Experience across firmware, cloud/backend, mobile and web/ecommerce

• Strong exposure to connected products, IoT, embedded systems or device led technology environments

• Experience with native iOS/Android, cloud platforms and modern web/ecommerce environments

• Technically credible, with the ability to understand detail, ask the right questions and guide technical leaders
