about the roleAbout Us
We are a growing UK-based retail business with a large multi-site estate spanning stores, Head Office and operational locations.
As the business continues to expand, we are strengthening our technology function and are looking for a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer to help maintain reliable IT services across the organisation while supporting the delivery of new locations and infrastructure projects.
This is an opportunity to join an established IT team where you will have genuine ownership of infrastructure operations and play an important role in supporting the continued growth of the business.
Job DescriptionWe are looking for a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer to support the day-to-day operation of our IT infrastructure across a multi-site retail environment.
You will work across networking, Microsoft technologies, virtualisation, POS and wider infrastructure, while acting as a key point of escalation for more complex technical issues.
A significant part of the role will involve supporting new store openings, refurbishments and infrastructure rollouts, working closely with internal teams, stores and third-party suppliers to ensure technology is ready for operational launch.
This is not a management position. We are looking for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, solving problems and taking ownership from diagnosis through to resolution.
Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain and support IT infrastructure across stores, Head Office and wider operational locations.
Troubleshoot infrastructure, networking, connectivity, server and endpoint issues.
Support retail technology including POS/EPOS, tills, payment devices and store systems.
Assist with the technical delivery and readiness of new store openings, refurbishments and relocations.
Work with networking technologies including firewalls, switching, Wi-Fi, VPN and site connectivity.
Support Microsoft environments including Microsoft 365, Active Directory/Entra ID and Windows Server.
Provide support across virtualised environments including VMware and/or Hyper-V.
Act as an escalation point for complex incidents and recurring infrastructure problems.
Coordinate with third-party suppliers, vendors, ISPs and field engineers where required.
Contribute to infrastructure improvements, technical documentation and operational processes.
Participate in a light out-of-hours/on-call rota for critical infrastructure incidents.
Travel occasionally to stores when required, particularly around new openings and infrastructure projects.
Requirements2–5 years' experience in hands-on IT infrastructure or systems support.
Experience working within a retail, multi-site or geographically distributed environment.
Strong understanding of networking, including LAN/WAN, VPN, switching and Wi-Fi.
Experience with Fortinet/FortiGate, Meraki or comparable firewall/networking technologies.
Working knowledge of VMware and/or Hyper-V.
Experience supporting Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra ID and Microsoft 365.
Exposure to POS/EPOS or other retail technology would be highly advantageous.
Experience supporting infrastructure projects, deployments or new site/store openings.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
Comfortable working with vendors, technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
A hands-on and proactive approach, with a willingness to take ownership rather than simply escalate problems.
Ability to think on your feet and remain calm when dealing with operationally critical issues.
Adaptable, open-minded and collaborative, with the ability to integrate into an established team.
BenefitsCompetitive salary of up to £45,000, depending on experience.
Hybrid working – 4 days in the London office and 1 day from home.
Additional compensation for participation in the on-call rota.
Opportunity to work across a large-scale, multi-site retail technology environment.
Exposure to infrastructure projects supporting business growth and new site openings.
Opportunity to develop your technical skills across networking, cloud, virtualisation and retail technology.
Supportive and established IT team with opportunities for progression.
OtherThis vacancy represents an opportunity to influence technical resilience for a high-volume retail operation. Candidates with experience in fast-moving logistics or commerce platforms will be prioritized. The organisation values practical problem solving and measurable improvements to availability and automation.
