Forsyth Barnes is delighted to be partnering exclusively with a progressive and ambitious EFL football club poised for an exciting summer of transformation both on and off the pitch.
Job DescriptionAs part of their evolving strategy, the club is seeking a hands-on, commercially astute Financial Controller to lead and modernise the finance function. This is a rare opportunity to join a club with a clear long-term vision, strong leadership, and a renewed focus on operational excellence and financial sustainability. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership and bring efficiency, accuracy, and innovation to the finance function.
Key Responsibilities· Take ownership of month-end closing, including preparation of financial statements and management accounts.
· Oversee and automate the billing process to reduce manual work and improve efficiency.
· Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.
· Develop and implement robust financial controls and processes.
· Work closely with external auditors, providing required documentation and explanations.
· Support on EFL (English Football League) financial reporting and compliance.
· Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.
· Regularly review cash flow reports and ensure accurate forecasting.
Requirements· Qualified Accountant (ACCA or ACA).
· Proven experience as a Financial Controller, ideally within a football club or a complex multi-entity business.
· Strong technical accounting skills and experience with month-end closing.
· Hands-on experience with automating billing and financial processes.
· Excellent knowledge of financial controls, budgeting, and forecasting.
· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
· Strong work ethic with a hands-on approach and lead by example.
· Desirable if speak Italian/Spanish or French.

· Proactive and hands-on, comfortable taking ownership of financial operations.
· Experience in football or sports is beneficial but not essential.
· Eager to learn and develop, with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
· Ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
