Job DescriptionWe’re looking for a Project Engineer to join our Infrastructure Operations team and support the delivery of major capital projects. Reporting to the Technical Director, you will work across a portfolio of complex engineering programmes, providing critical technical input and coordination.
The role involves supporting Project Managers on engineering design, quality assurance, site inspection, and stakeholder engagement. A strong background in NEC contracts and previous experience within transport, construction, or regulated infrastructure environments will be key to success.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Support & Coordination
Work alongside Project Managers to ensure technical activities align with overall project objectives
Monitor schedules, flag delays, and propose corrective actions
Technical Design Review & Implementation
Evaluate electrical, civil, and communications engineering designs
Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., rail, airport, or highways)
Recommend adjustments based on site conditions or project needs
Site Inspection & Quality Control
Conduct regular site visits to review progress and quality
Address technical issues on-site, ensuring safety and compliance
Stakeholder & Contractor Engagement
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to clarify requirements
Collaborate with contractors to ensure technical specifications are met
RequirementsExperience & Skills
Demonstrated experience delivering civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering projects
Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2 or similar)
Experience overseeing construction, commissioning, and installation in roadside, rail, or infrastructure environments
Familiarity with British Standards for electrical design
Hands-on experience with large-scale CAPEX project rollouts
Skilled in contractor and supplier management, with a focus on dispute resolution and delivery assurance
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Strong attention to detail and time management
Qualifications
Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar (required)
SMSTS certification (preferred)
NEBOSH or IOSH qualifications (preferred)
Understanding of CDM Regulations 2015
Proficiency in MS Project and Microsoft Office
Chartered status (desirable)
Experience with NEC or similar contract frameworks (desirable)
