My client in the Telecommunications space is looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager/Director of Data Engineering and Architecture Modernization to lead a high-impact team tasked with modernizing their data architecture and engineering processes. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with strong leadership and communication skills who is looking to grow professionally while leading a team of 4-8 professionals. This role involves close collaboration with multiple data teams and key stakeholders to drive modernization initiatives.Key Responsibilities:- Lead and manage a team of 4-8 data engineers focused on modernizing data architecture and engineering practices.
- Collaborate with internal teams (network connectivity, testing, stakeholders) to ensure seamless execution and alignment on modernization efforts.
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of scalable ETL frameworks, Spark solutions, and cloud-native architectures.
- Drive delivery timelines, ensuring that modernization milestones are met on time and within scope.
- Mentor and develop the skills of team members, fostering a growth-oriented environment.
- Contribute to long-term strategy for data architecture modernization to future-proof the company's data infrastructure.
Required Experience:The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in data engineering, AWS and proven experience in managing teams to execute large-scale transformation projects. The selected candidate should be prepared to start by November, with a focus on kicking off major modernization efforts by 2025.- 4-6 years of experience in managing and leading teams in data engineering and modernization initiatives.
- 6-10 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with expertise in ETL, Spark, Python, PySpark, and SQL.
- Experience working with AWS cloud technologies (Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB) experience is a plus but not required.
- Proven track record in leading modernization projects within large organizations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders alike.
- Desire to grow professionally and help build a high-performing, forward-thinking team.
Work Environment & Flexibility:Contractors can work fully remote (with a preference to local candidates) with occasional in office presence for key meetings but upon becoming an FTE you will be required to work 4 days on-site and 1 day remotely, reporting to any of the following offices: Charlotte (NC), St. Louis (MO), Denver (CO), Stamford (CT).Greater flexibility is available during the contract duration, but full-time employees will need to comply with the on-site working requirements.
