About the Team
Join a dynamic Data and Platform Engineering team that underpins the wider Data Office function. This team is at the forefront of a data revolution, transitioning from on-premise to Google Cloud. You will play a vital role in designing, building, and maintaining the data platform, transforming raw data into valuable insights and ensuring the infrastructure is robust and scalable.
With exposure to market-leading technologies such as BigQuery, Looker, and DataFlow, you'll have the chance to deliver innovative data solutions that shape the future.
Your Role
- As the Principal Data Engineer, you’ll be a senior member of the Data Engineering team, reporting directly to the Head of Data & Platform Engineering. Your core responsibility will be to ensure the data platform is reliable, efficient, and high-performing within the Google Cloud environment.
- Beyond hands-on engineering, you’ll lead by example—setting best practices, mentoring junior engineers, and maintaining high standards across the team. You will be responsible for optimising data pipelines, ensuring data quality and security, and overseeing compliance.
- Collaboration is central to this role, and you’ll work closely with cloud engineers and architects to optimise data pipeline designs, document solutions, and translate technical information for non-technical stakeholders.
About You
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring deep technical expertise and significant leadership experience, particularly within Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You should have strong skills in building and optimising ETL/ELT pipelines and data models, with a solid background in SQL and coding languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
Your ideal background includes:
- 7+ years in Data Engineering
- 3+ years working extensively with GCP, particularly with tools like BigQuery, DataFlow, and Airflow
- Extensive experience in CI/CD implementation and automation
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Leadership experience, including managing and mentoring data engineers
